RIVERSIDE, CA – The Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) recently announced that Western Municipal Water District (Western) is one of only seven utilities in North America to receive recognition at the Platinum level for their exemplary water use efficiency programs.
Western’s Board President Brenda Dennstedt announced in a recent statement, “I am proud to share Western’s recognition as a national leader in water efficiency programs. It is an honor to be acknowledged for our commitment to water use efficiency, along with a steadfast commitment to partnering with customers through support programs and promoting environmental sustainability in the region.”
In 2013, the G-480-13 standard was adopted by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) to promote water use efficiency through conservation. This standard requires that utilities designate staff for conservation programs; integrate conservation into planning and education programs; implement landscape efficiency and water loss control programs; adopt a water waste ordinance; and use metering and water rates that encourage efficiency.
Western’s recognition at the Platinum level represents 100 percent compliance with the standard and demonstrates that Western has incorporated conservation into all levels of the organization. This award is a noteworthy accomplishment that reflects Western’s historic commitment to water use efficiency and significant investments in planning and educational programs that support this effort.
AWE is a national non-profit dedicated to the efficient and sustainable use of water and includes members from local water districts, appliance manufacturers, universities and environmental groups. To acknowledge agencies that meet or exceed the G-480-13 standards, this program was created to recognize agencies at the Platinum, Gold, or Silver levels.
