WHO WE ARE
Western Municipal Water District is located in the Western portion of Riverside County in California. Western is a leader in regional water resource management. The District has several areas of responsibilities: Finance, Public Affairs, Operations and Engineering, Water Resources, External Affairs, Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology and Risk and Safety.

 

WHAT WE DO
The District provides water treatment, water distribution and sewer collection services to a 527 square mile area of western Riverside County. Western currently sells approximately 125,000 acre feet in water annually. Western serves approximately 24,000 retail and 8 wholesale customers with an assessed valuation of $83 billion and a population of more than 853,000. Western also operates the Murrieta Division which provides water and wastewater services to approximately 2,600 customers within the 6.5 square mile service area.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will assist the District’s Water Resource staff in the development of a Lithlog Database and GIS base map for several thousand well logs in the District’s service area. Eligible candidate should be familiar with numerous formats of drillers logs, well completion reports, and transcribe drillers comments into a database standardized format as well as the understanding of State Well Numbering System and modern GIS and Microsoft Access.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of the methods, procedures, and technology of GIS and Microsoft Access database, and programming.
• Ability to use modern GIS to produce GIS base maps.
• Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report preparation.
• Good understanding of Microsoft Windows operating system and ability to use standard office software.
• Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to focus on and complete tasks with attention to detail and organization.
• Good oral and written communication skills and ability to follow oral and written directions.

REQUIREMENTS

Currently enrolled in college as an undergraduate or graduate student, or have graduated within the last two years from an accredited college or university. The successful candidate will have completed or maintained course work with a C or better grade. A Valid California Class C Driver License is required.

• Compile lithlog information from PDF files and from well completion reports. The incumbent will be expected to gather information through the use of PDF lithlog files as well as existing hard copies of lithlog document, Excel files, GIS maps, and aerial photos.

• Be able to correctly locate a well site from drillers log using modern GIS maps and historical resources, such as older well location maps, DWR well number assignment map, USGS Topographic maps, Thomas Guides, and First Notices of Groundwater Extractions.

• Develop an Access database for the lithlog information within the District service area. The database should include State Identification Number, coordinates of the drilled hole (NAD1983), Township and Range, soil type, total drilled depth, perforated intervals, method of drilling, type of drilled well (monitoring or pumping well), pumping rate, specific capacity, depth to groundwater, and any other relevant information.

• Using the Lithlog Database developed in the previous step to develop a GIS base map for the Lithlogs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Employees are frequently required to stand and walk and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The employee will be required to be able to use computer systems (keyboards, monitors, etc.) in support of their duties. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Pre-Employment Requirements

All offers of employment are contingent on a satisfactory background investigation, proof of a good driving record, and successful completion of a District paid physical. Candidates will be required to undergo an extensive background search and in-depth review of experience before continuing on in the process. The background investigation consists of checking criminal and civil court records, checking driver license records, contacting previous employers and business or personal references, and verifying educational degrees and certifications. The final selection process may also involve other methods of evaluation to determine the best overall fit with the District’s current and future needs.


A District paid physical examination may be given, which may include drug and alcohol testing.


Applicants selected for an interview may be required to provide, at their own cost, a current, original California DMV Driver Record Report.
